Also referred to as "Aphrodite's hair" or sagenite. This quartz crystal has hair-inclusions inside it.

Composition:

Quartz consists of SiO2 (silicon dioxide). The rutilated areas are TiO2 (titanium dioxide).

Rotile is the name given to a kind of titanium ore.

Roulette appears as a hair - inclusions across this variety of quartz.

Hardness:

On the Mohs scale, which ranges from 1 to 10, quartz comes in at 7 while, rutilated inclusions are at 6 to 6.5.

This makes it a medium-hard stone.

Color:

Rutilated quartz can come in different colors. Quartz is often transparent.

The rutilated clones can be found in a variety of colors, such as gold, black or reddish, gray or pink.

Envelopes can either be all a color or different colors within the same crystal.
